Double Chin Removal – Fat Dissolving Injections

For a lot of people, exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy diet is no guarantee that their double chin will disappear. Thankfully, patients can now get rid of their unwanted double chin through the use of fat dissolving injections.

The injections consist of a potent enzyme that significantly reduces the amount of fat present in the double chin. This procedure is now used extensively in clinics throughout the world and is just beginning to take hold here in Australia as well.

How Do Fat Dissolving Injections Work?

The fat dissolving substance is a powerful enzyme that splits the fat cell membranes contained within the double chin. When these cell membranes are breached, the human body is able to dissolve the fat as waste material and eradicate it from the body. Our body develops double chin fat over a length of time and can be difficult to remove through natural means.

Each patient is assessed by our trained doctors to help determine if the treatment is appropriate for them. Once approved, the fat dissolving injectables will be inserted into the required area. The treatment area is iced both before and after the procedure. This helps to minimise any swelling that occurs.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

In order to provide effective double chin reduction, 2 or more treatments are required, up to a maximum of 6 treatments. Individual results vary and your doctor will assess your progress after your initial two treatments to determine whether you require additional treatments or not. The first two injections are scheduled six weeks apart from each other.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Each patient will experience noticeable swelling on the day following the procedure. During this time, the double chin will often enlarge. This is because the fat cells are undergoing a process known as lysis, which refers to the dissolution of the cell membranes. The swelling lasts for around two days or so, before easing off and is a positive indicator of the treatment’s progression. It is important that patients refrain from using any medication that deceases the swelling during this time.

In addition to swelling, patients may also experience some mild pain and bruising which can last for several days. A Panadol may be taken to help curb any discomfort. A week following your treatment, any swelling or pain should be non-existent. Patients are advised to take a few days off work to recover from their treatment.

Can Fat Dissolving Injections Be Used to Treat Other Areas?

At present, the injectables have only been approved by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) to remove fat from the chin region and so we do not administer the injections to other areas of the body.

How Effective Is the Treatment?

  • Fat dissolving injections are one of the most effective methods of achieving double chin fat reduction without resorting to surgery
  • All fat cells in the targeted area are completely eliminated. Patients who undergo this treatment also receive the benefits of skin tightening
  • Your doctor will monitor the progress of your treatment to help determine how many sessions you require to achieve optimal double chin reduction, ensuring a noticeable improvement for each individual
