How many treatment sessions will I require?

During your initial consultation, your doctor will advise you on how many treatment sessions you are likely to require in order to achieve optimal results. Patients will typically require more than one session. The amount of treatment sessions you require depends on a number of factors such as:

• Your skin condition and its severity
• The amount of collagen present in your skin (collagen levels are affected by things such as diet, sun exposure and cigarette smoking)

Each treatment session will typically occur several weeks apart, depending on how well you respond to the treatment and the condition you’re being treated for.

Is the treatment painful?

Before each treatment commences, a local anaesthetic is applied to the surface of your skin. Skin needling is a relatively quick procedure (15-30 minutes), so if you do feel a slight pain sensation, it will typically be for a brief time only. Additionally, the doctor performing the treatment can readily adjust the Skin needling device according to your comfort levels.

All treatments are performed with the utmost care and consideration for the patient and all procedures are completed in a highly methodical manner. Your doctor will communicate with you throughout the entire process to ensure that you are comfortable at all times and will gauge your skin’s reaction to the treatment.

Can skin needling be used with other treatments?

This will depend on your skin condition being treated and the severity of the condition. If possible, your doctor may advise you to supplement your skin needling with other treatments. For elderly skin, a combination treatment may consist of the skin needling, anti-wrinkle and volumising injections, and do-it-yourself treatments such as skin peels and microdermabrasion.
